WORK EXPERIENCE:

CNET News, Staff writer, San Francisco, CA, September 2014 – present
•    Write feature, news and analysis stories focusing on the so-called sharing economy and tech culture. Topics include Airbnb, ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft and the proliferation of high-tech weaponry.

Freelance Reporter, Bay Area, CA, January 2008 – September 2014
•    Wrote articles and produced video and radio pieces for various publications, including The New York Times Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast, Guernica, ESPN Action Sports, San Francisco Magazine, SF Weekly, East Bay Express and KALW public radio. Worked as a contributing writer for CNET News focusing on technology and for California Home + Design focusing on local design and art.

Oakland North, Fellow/Senior reporter, Oakland, CA, June 2010 – June 2011
•    Wrote feature and news articles, produced videos, audio slide-shows and podcasts focused on various beats in Oakland, including crime, courts, culture, transportation, politics, environment and business. All articles were published on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website and several were re-published by The Bay Citizen. Equality Now, Program Officer, New York, NY, September 2006 – December 2007
•    Wrote human rights reports, public statements and conducted outreach for international campaigns addressing women’s rights violations. Monitored and researched human rights violations against women internationally.

Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, Program Associate, Brooklyn, NY, May 2005 – September 2006
•    Wrote, translated and edited, with forensic anthropologists, the 2005 and 2006 annual human rights reports. Coordinated photographers, designers and printing for the report. Assisted in documentary video archiving.

Central American Legal Assistance, Research Analyst, Brooklyn, NY, September 2002 – September 2006
•    Recorded case histories of asylum seekers and assisted in their immigration documentation. Researched human rights abuses for client evidence in asylum cases. Wrote memos documenting the plausibility of certain asylum cases. Served as an expert witness on asylum cases involving gang violence in El Salvador.

Peace Corps, Peace Corps Volunteer, El Tinteral, El Salvador, January 2000 – June 2002
•    Wrote grants for and directed water system project to supply potable water to 179 people. Conducted field surveys of damage sustained in the 2001 earthquake (97 percent of homes deemed unlivable). Administered $50,000 earthquake relief fund and oversaw housing project for 35 families and temporary shelters for 364 families.
